Peritonitis is a common and potentially serious infection in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis(PD). The incidence of PD-related peritonitis is approximately 0.5 episodes perpatient-year with two thirds representing Gram-positive infections. Infectious peritonitis usually is suspected based on signs and symptoms including cloudy dianeal effluent abdominal pain and fever.
